Yesterday Mrs B’s class went on an outstanding outing that included going in a boat called the Tolly Rodger around Seal Island .When the boat started moving it was so exciting to see all the shops that were getting further away by the minute. When we were in the open water we were given a real live pirate show by the crew!! It was very entertaining to watch! Unfortunately my friend Ulfdavf got seasick. It was also very funny when we saw an approaching boat and we all shouted ARRRRRRRRR!!!!!! And they replied by going AAHHOY!!! We also saw some sea creatures such as seals, dolphins and penguins!! It was such a cool outing I wished it would never end but to my horror we were going back into the harbour!! Then on the way home we went to Sweets from Heaven!! Yum yum!!!!!

To start off our project we designed invitations inviting senior citizens to a tea to find out about our plans.

I interviewed Christine. This is what I found out about my Senior Citizen, Christine. When you have read about my project, please fill in the comment box and tell me about a senior citizen or grandparent that you know. Thanks
Christine as a small child
In my family there was one child and I lived in Mitchells Plain. Lots of people were builders and did various other jobs.I remember making clothes and working in the house. I used to play with small dolls. When I had time I used to skip with my skipping ropes. My father was a carpenters and he loved it. My mother stayed at home. In those days people liked to become builders. When I was small I remember my mother working in the house and making dresses.
Christine’s Primary School Days
I had a very nice school. I went to Pronera Primary school. I walked to school bare-foot. The subjects were Afrikaans, Maths, English and Reading. I wrote in cursive. We did not have computers because they weren’t invented yet. If children were naughty they were caned by the principal. We had lots of homework to do. I liked to play hopscotch on the playground.
Christine as a teenager
As teenagers we wore dresses and we had no cell phones. We didn’t have extra murals at my school so in my spare time I helped my mom with the washing . We went on dates by the river. The perfect date would be to go to a restaurant. My favourite music was by a singer called Jim Reeves. I liked films about cowboys and crooks. My mom made a lot of mieliemeal to eat and we also liked mealies. We had no servants working in our house. I met my husband at the waterfront.
How has South Africa changed since Christine was a child?
It was very racial when I was a child. We called it Apartheid.
Does Christine have any interesting information about his or her own grandparents?
My grandparents were farmers and they were very good to me.
What advice can Christine give to help us in our lives?
Stay away from trouble and respect your elders
Any herbs and remedies that were popular when your senior citizen was a child? We liked to use Dutch medicines.
Any other interesting stories you could tell us?
I was beaten a lot because my mother was very strict. But I still love her. I stayed at home when I was a teenager and never got into trouble.
I helped Christine learn to blog.
Christine said she really enjoyed the project
Everyone was sad to say goodbye.
